Islamic Headscarf Controversy in Turkey 

The Islamic headscarf again became the subject of Turkish political debate.

On Wednesday, the Turkish government decided to take legal steps to ensure the right of women to wear Islamic headscarves.

The headscarf issue was the focus of fierce discord in secular Turkey for years.

This stopped after the reforms carried out by Erdogan's Islamist AK Party (AKP) during his two decades in power.

On Wednesday, the issue was discussed in detail in a speech to the AKP's representatives in Parliament.

Erdogan targets CHP, saying- "Come and let's solve this, not just as a law but at the constitutional level,"

By Erdogan In 2008 the Turkish parliament lifted a ban on female students wearing headscarves at the university.
