Mills Lane dies at 85

Mills Lane of the Hall of Fame bout was the third man in the ring when Mike Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield's ear.

Mills Lane was 85, he died on Tuesday.

Lane also had a stroke in 2002, his son said, adding that he was hospitalized on Friday due to his worsening condition.

Lane said, "It's a bit of a relief that he's not stuck in that situation, but we'll all miss him."

The boxer who won the NCAA championship in 1960, Lane made an impression as a referee.

Mills was the referee when Holyfield won the heavyweight title from Buster Douglas.

He shared the ring with many greats such as Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes.

He officiated over 100 title fights and was respected for his fairness.
