Sharon Lockedy and Evans Chebet both topped in their debut matches

In the men's race, Evans Chebet of Kenya won the New York City Marathon and in the women's race, Sharon Lokedy of Kenya won on Sunday

Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedy of Kenya both had their debut matches and both made a splash in their debuts.

Chebet finished the marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes 41 seconds, 13 seconds ahead of Ethiopian second-placed Shura Kitata.

Chabet, 33, pulled away from the pack chasing Nascimento as they were crossing the bridge in Manhattan for the first time.

This was Kenya's Sharon Lokedi's first marathon and Sharon Lokedy finished the marathon in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 23 seconds.

The 28-year-old Lokedi was in a tight race before toppling Chemtai Salpeter in the final two miles, but Lokedi took the win by seven seconds.

The men's wheelchair race for the fifth time was won by Switzerland's Marcel Haug, tying Kurt Fernley for the most wins in that event.

Susannah Scaroni also broke the course record in the women's wheelchair race, which finished in 1hr 42min 43s.

Scaroni won the Chicago Marathon last month and won his first title in New York after placing third in 2019.
