Sparks' mom shares pain on first day of Darrell's hearing

Darrell Brooks Jr. faced an emotional and angry outburst by dozens of victims, setting the stage for a sentence that could result in a life in prison.

After hearings, those whose lives were shattered by the attack were able to serve their two-day sentences.

The effect significantly shortened the statement as the courtroom was emptied on Tuesday.

On October 26, 2021, 40-year-old Brooks has been accused of killing six people and injuring dozens after being run over by a vehicle.

About 40 victims will give statements before Waukesha County Judge Doro Brooks is sentenced on Wednesday.

Brooks wore a surgical mask. He laughed occasionally in silent emotion, bowed his head and read a Bible he brought to the court.

Sherry Sparks was at a Christmas parade with both of her sons when Brooks' SUV struck both of her sons, one of whom died of a brain injury.

Sparks said, "Do you have any idea how painful it is to have to explain to your 12-year-old son that his little brother is not going to be successful?"
