Sugar House fire

Dozens of firefighters descended on Sugar House late Tuesday night after a massive fire broke out in an empty under-construction building.

The ignited shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the City Fire Department.

The building where the fire broke out was located west of Highland Drive, south of 2100 South.

According to staff no one was inside the building, described the building as an open frame structure that seemed to be still under construction.

He said the exposed building materials and the resulting open air flow were rapidly feeding the flames, leading to a "very active" fire.

Stowe said that by about midnight, about 70 firefighters had responded to the massive fire, including three-ladder trucks.

Salt Lake City Police reported at 1:15 a.m. that there were no reports of anyone being injured in the fire.

Police advised early Wednesday, "There is concern that the building will catch fire, so we ask people to stay away."
